How to Release Limiting Habits and Replace Them with Success Habits

I designed a simple two-part technique that empowers you do this quickly and easily.

Begin by speaking of a success habit as if it belong to you, put it close at hand, and place it in the present.

Then speak of a limiting habit as if it belonged to someone else, put it at a distance, and place it in the past.

You can do with virtually no practice and it works at the speed of thought.

Here’s how.

Let’s say that the success habit you wish to acquire is organizing your work from day to day.

Therefore, let’s say that your limiting habit is finishing the day’s work without planning for the next day.

Notice the difference between the following statements:

“I organize my work from day to day.”

“_________ (insert your first name) finishes the day’s work without planning for the next day.”

Notice the different feeling each statement generates.

Now add these gestures.

Place one hand on your chest with the palm toward you and say “I organize my work from day to day.”

Now, extend your arm outward so your fingers point away from you and say “_________ (insert your first name) finishes the day’s work without planning for the next day.”

That’s a real difference and you can feel it, can you not?

The first statement and the hand on your chest firmly connect this success habit to you. However, the second statement and the gesture toward the distance move this limiting habit away from you.

In the first case, your words and body language claim the habit and affirm it as your own.

In the second case, your words and body language treat the habit as if it belongs to someone else that is “out there somewhere!”

This may seem insignificant. However, this makes the habit much easier to change.

Now add the final step and sense the powerful result.

As you hold you hand on your chest, say “I organize my work from day to day.”

Then, as you extend your arm away from you and point your finger toward the distance, say “_________ (insert your first name) used to finish the day’s work without planning for the next day.”

Notice how the success habit feels present and close while the limiting habit now seems like it is in the past and at a distance.

You have heard that you can change a habit in 21 days. Pick a success habit you want to embody and a limiting habit you want to replace.

Use my technique and adapt the above words and gestures accordingly. Practice this technique a couple of times each day for 21 days.

You will be amazed at how quickly the success habit becomes a present reality and the limiting habit becomes a distant memory.
